Favorite Finds, Feature, Ireland, popular

Ireland has a lot to offer and I feel so lucky to have grown up in this exciting and very beautiful  country. For me the really great thing about growing up in Dundalk my home town and the  North Louth area is its location, which is between Belfast and Dublin but I find it hard to believe why Dundalk and Louth is not advertised a lot more for the visiting tourist to Ireland. Maybe I am biased as it is my hometown but I find for such a small county, Louth affectionately known as the “Wee county” has a lot to offer. If you are like me and love hiking and outdoor activities, Carlingford a small medieval town just north of Dundalk nestling on picturesque Carlingford Lough is an amazing family destination and a real “must see” with plenty to offer with rock climbing, hill walking, water sports, zip-lining, laser tag you name it. For all you history lovers just outside Drogheda we have Newgrange, which is a passage grave, built in the Neolithic period. The central burial chamber lights up for the winter solstice. It is older than Egyptian pyramids. If you prefer to shop local boutiques such as Eden, McKenna man and my favorite After Sybil vintage boutique in Blackrock will not disappoint.

Now doing any if not all of these activities can leave you exhausted and a little bit peckish but I have the solution. Strandfield House when I was in school was always a chic hideaway away from the town centre , where you would find the occasional fashion show or social event. Now Strandfield is not only a beautiful organic grocery and flower shop but also the perfect place for an authentic Irish brunch. My favourite treat while at home this Christmas was their freshly made French toast but I do warn you, depending on the time of day you go to Strandfield, it is unfortunately no longer the hidden secret that I once knew. No matter when or what time you visit it is busy but it is well worth the wait to experience a new twist on traditional Irish cusine. Growing up, I loved my mums homemade soup, its a big part in every Irish persons diet and you will discover this when you order here. Living in New York, I still have not experienced or tasted a nicer homemade soup than Strandfield’s, sorry Mum ! No matter what you decide to order you will not be disappointed it really is the perfect way to finish off the day, if not start it.

Stay Lawless,

Niamh X
