My Two Loves

February 27, 2017

I have been back in New York for over three weeks now and really love every minute, just catching up with friends and enjoying the city. I missed it so much. It really has been non stop since I arrived back but nothing really changes in this city, other than the fashion of course and a few new skyscapers here and there !! So my latest wardrobe post has to be from my two favourite brands in New York, which are  BCBG and Aritizia. Both designer stores were my absolute favourite places to shop while living here and Club Monaco but that is for another day. However at the moment, BCBG is closing many of its stores around the city, which for me is quite sad, as not only did I work with the designers on previous fashion weeks but primarily because I believe it is such a good brand. The quality of fabrics and designs which BCBG collections are renowned for will be missed, in fact in my opinion they captured the best the industry has to offer. Although this is very unfortunate for the design & production teams, it does mean that we ladies are being treated to some major discounts, as they are still selling online. I think it is accepted by now, that pink is the leading colour of the Spring Summer season 2017 however it does not mean it is the only colour deemed trendy. White will always be present in every season so with that being said, I picked out my favourites and even took some pictures . One main reason why women tend to stay away from all white, is some believe it can be unflattering and can make you look bigger than you really are. I personally don’t believe this. No matter what colour you decide to wear, as long as it is tailored with good quality fabric its hard to look bad. You can match white with any colour but for me grey is the best combo and I found this beautifu blouse in the Aritiza sale. I have spoken about Aritizia before but mainly about their leather pants. This store is also ideal for good summer basics and a statement blouse. I hope you love this look and perhaps try it yourself and of course.Photography by Annis Kamara (Instagram :a.kamera_)

Alice & Oliva

December 16, 2015

One of my favorite things to mix and match around this time of year is skirts. Besides being extremely comfortable, they really are the perfect addition to your wardrobe in the winter months. If I had to decide on one designer as a number one choice, it would have to be Alice and Oliva. Each and every season their collection is better than the previous, I wont lie they are pricey but I feel really worth every cent. It will make you feel as though you are one of the girls walking in NYFW, sophisticated and effortlessly chic, for me this is brand you need to invest in. My first summer while working in New York, I bought this beautiful skirt and have never found a replacement that is any way better. You really must check out this seasons collection! Alice and Oliva are known for their lavish prints and textured jackets. If ever there was a moment you wanted to make a statement, these ladies will help you achieve it. One thing that is annoying while wearing a skirt is, what top will complement it and lets face it, you don’t want to make it frumpy looking. My favorite thing to wear with every season is a bodysuit. Once you get one you like you will probably never want to buy a top over jeans again. They are just that good and I’m not the only one to agree with this, with numerous online stores carrying a large selection, it’s a hard one to miss. Asos is always an excellent search option but my ultimate favorite for value and quality is Missguided. Not only do they look amazing but sometimes if not most of the time, you will be spoiled for choice with a great range  of colours. How perfect?? Make sure to keep a close eye on the Alice and Oliva collection, I promise you its all you need to know for what’s trending or “in”, the following season. Photography by Kristen Walker.

Thanksgiving

December 3, 2015

It wasn’t long ago that I remember my mum throwing a poncho on my six year old self. Besides hating it, my rebellion to this wardrobe choice was evident, as I pretended to be a ghost half the time. Luckily for me (but not at the time, lol) ponchos have made a return and I’ve left some of my childish ways behind. There have been numerous designers adding this to their collection this season perhaps influenced by fashionista and New York socialite Oliva Pamlero, who recently rocked a beautiful Burberry Cape last season.

Since then I have noticed them everywhere from vintage boutiques to my everyday addiction Asos, who are now displaying numerous options for the coming season. However, I surprisingly found mine in Topshop, as I usually would be more drawn to their selection of dresses and tops at this time of year. It’s a store I feel has gone from strength to strength in the past five years, having not only branched out Stateside but also opening two stores in the centre of two of Manhattan’s shopping avenues. Lucky for me and other girls from home, we don’t have to wait online any more and hopefully very soon River Island will also make its way here.

There are many others in the Topshop collection but this grey poncho is easily my favorite. The trim is what made it for me and when you put it on you it is really extremely comfortable. This time of year I am usually if not always wearing a black base whether its denim jean or leather pants but that’s not to say that a pair of blue denims would be perfect either. Whether you accessorize this poncho with a belt or chunky necklace it is not essential, as on its own you will turn heads. Trust me you will understand me if you decide to wear it this season.

Urban Accessories

November 18, 2015

The best part of winter fashion I think we will all agree on is layering up. All you need is a strong jacket to get you through the cold rainy days with numerous selections of accessories ranging from hats to vibrant scarfs to complete the look. Scarfs are my favorite winter accessory and my collection really never stops growing. Some of my favorites places to shop for them are Zara or a brand called Selected. They tend to have a strong selection of basic colors each season, which is perfect as you can adapt them to a wide variety of outfits in your wardrobe. However having moved to New York, I feel it can get dull very fast with everyone wearing similar multiple colors of beige, greens and blacks. It’s nice to see an introduction of different colors into the mix. I bought my scarf from Urban Outfitters and really love it. My sheer animal print top is from Selected another favorite of mine. Like I said before, a strong jacket and pair of leather pants are all you need to make your winter wardrobe and also it gives some of you shopaholics the excuse to buy new accessories to match. Other options for scarfs are snoods, which are another favorite of mine. I found a strong selection from River Island and also Asos this season. I do advise to check them out but if you are not convinced Anthropologie this season has become one of my new loves and an excellent alternative which I have discovered here in New York. Berlyn65

July 1, 2015

Boys listen up, I know mother’s day has passed but if you are still looking to have a special day for that important lady in your life, whether it be your mom or your girlfriend, I’ve found the best solution to your problem. The best part of my job is that we usually if not always are on location finding every possible and hidden gem that New York and the surrounding boroughs have to offer. One day while working on the set of Blue Bloods I found the perfect dating spot in the heart of Williamsburg. A hint to all you gentlemen who think they have won us ladies over — think again. Berlyn65, B65 for short, is an amazing boutique on Bedford Avenue and only a five minute walk from the Williamsburg bridge. Here you will find a collection of luxurious Turkish towels with a diverse collection of colors and patterns. These Turkish towels are the perfect fit for the beach or summer vacation. Towels like these are a great addition to any home as you really can use them for anything, and would fit nicely at the side of an armrest to brighten up any room. The ideal gift for those who love to snuggle up in comfort but also still be fashionable lazy. You will definitely find a treasured gift here, if not with their towels, but perhaps with their amazing range of soaps and oils. One which caught my eye was their Possum Hollow farm soaps. An amazing natural soap crafted from vegetable oils, cow’s milk, amazing blends of essential oils, organic herbs, flowers, and colorful natural clays.

Being that I have eczema and poor skin, I appreciate products specifically designed to attend to specific skincare needs and conditions. Besides being amazing for your skin, Possum Hollow farm soaps packaging are vibrant with a classic touch of 60’s vibe. The perfect décor to make any bathroom look trendy. Don’t forget to also check out their growing selection of serums. Serums are the perfect solution for dark circles and discolored skin on the face. B65 has the most amazing range called Woods which are crafted to mend every imperfection. What I love about this boutique is that it’s so quant but yet has this amazing aura where for a moment you feel like you are on some beautiful tropical resort. The décor of this boutique is amazing and easily one of my favorites that I’ve seen so far in New York. The entrance into the store is through a beautiful restaurant so it is the perfect setting to treat either yourself or that special someone. If planning a date early in the day to treat someone or perhaps brunch with your girlies B65 is the perfect spot to hit every shopaholic needs and wants. Not forgetting B65 amazing collection of jewelry designers from my favorite Miranda Hope to Lab and much more there is to much to choose from. Miranda hope however has to be my favorite with embellished gemstones and pyrite beading there really is no other collection or designer who creates like Ms.Hope. So ladies if you are like me and love to be lawless with your style or perhaps treat that special someone Berlyn65 has it all so don’t deprive yourself!!! Check it out for yourself.
