So yesterday, was not only my 24th birthday but also my very first time getting the opportunity to see a polo event. The eighth annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic was held in Liberty State Park. To get to this exclusive event, New York’s most stylish are chauffeured by ferry towards Jersey harbour. On arrival they are greeted with impressive views of downtown Manhattan right over to the Statue of Liberty. A chic and elite sporting event that is said to centre around horses but is also clearly a fashion occasion for both ladies and men. Guests are each greeted with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne along with a selection of golden gifts from sunglasses, umbrellas, hats, bags all of which are engraved with the Veuve Clicquot trademark. They also have a beautiful blanket, giving guests the option to lie down and soak up the New York sun. Before moving towards the Rose Garden bar ladies were able to gather their own personalised arrangement of flowers from a pink flower cart.
I know it might sound crazy to some but it really is a fantastic sport which is not usually if ever seen on Irish shores. Of course, we have our Galway Races which I absolutely love but Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic really has captured and created its own signature of charm and glamour. It was a busy day for me and my production team but that did not stop me finding some amazing outfits for you ladies to see.
Designers from Dolce and Gabbana, Marc Jacobs, Channel, Dior, BCBG and my favourite Maje were, all modeled in effortless style by New York’s elite socialites, from top actresses with the occasional super model in the mix. It was an interesting birthday for sure. One outfit that stood out for me immediately was an effortless beauty, who wore an oversized white dress with balloon sleeves. Leaving her jewelry very simple, she opted for a charming beige Pilyq sun hat with bold tailoring at the edges, lucky for you ladies this can be purchased online at Nordstorm (www.nordstom.com). I absolutely loved this look and of course her friend wore the most amazing dress in a very similar style to Kate Middleton. The placement of the floral print was alluring, giving her the perfect silhouette shape. Another favorite of mine was from fashionista Rose, who wore a grey and yellow Marc Jacobs dress. Rosie Philidor is one of New York’s elite fashion stylist having dressed iconic artists such as Jay-Z to Ciara only to name a few. The girl knows her stuff !!! I am obsessed with this years collection however this dress in particular is sculpted to create the perfect curve. Pleated and tailored using a contrast of colours and variety of materials, creates a fun and sexy charm.
Floral and polka dot dresses are a very big trend this season however one designer in particular made her own mark. Wearing a white dress and fedora is simple and I love women to experiment with their clothing and this look in particular, was a winner for me. Inspired while pregnant, she wanted to have something fun and playful and decided to have the added flowers to the bust and shoulders. To me this look is another top ten for me, as it was a hard look to pull off but made to look effortless.
Last but by far not least, was a dress designed by Jaton Couture an Australian designer. This beautiful laced dress was breathtaking, the front was laced and sheer, very similar to Grace Kelly’s wedding dress however the back had a dramatic sexy plunge. My favourite part of this dress had to be the tailoring of the lace, it embodied a sophisticated style but still sexy. With the sleeves at the back turning into a train, this look stole the show for me.
